My favorite sculpt to date. For my second midterm in Organic Modeling II, I was assigned to sculpt a creature, and as a lifelong Godzilla fan, I had to give it a try. I had never sculpted or modeled any kaiju or large reptile before, so for a first attempt, I’m really proud of the result.
The entire process took about 28 hours of sculpting, painting, rendering, and going back and forth with feedback from my professor—who, I should add, gave me amazing tips on anatomy and the workflow of the project.
I used a mix of references from roosters, coelacanths, monitor lizards, crocodiles, komodo dragonsm, iguanas, and turtles.
The general design is based on the back of a crocodile, the chest of a turtle, the skin and muscle structure of monitor lizards and iguanas, and the claws of various reptiles. I was also heavily inspired by the designs of MinusGoji, LegendaryGoji, and MireGoji.
